Cold mountain stole

I joined my first knit along (=KAL) at ravelry. It is a KAL for the beautiful pattern Cold Mountain Stole, by Kieran Foley. You can find the pattern at knitty.com. It is a wrap with a vintage look. I had no lace weight yarn and I didn't allow myself to buy any new yarn. Besides.. I wanted to start. Going through my stash I found thin sockyarn that I didn't like for knitting socks so I started with that. Colours: grey-dark grey-darker grey and black. The pattern is quite easy to follow but you have to pay attention because a mistake is also easily made.  I made several.  Some I could fortunately repair without frogging, some not and frogging lace makes me a bit sulky.

I have noticed that it is nice to be in a knit along group especially because for me it is kind of a big project with a technique that's new for me. Being in the group keeps me motivated. It is good to know that more people are struggling with stitches and frogging and being happy with the results when work is progressing. The pictures people are placing are great. I like seeing the effects of the different yarns that are being used.

'Cold mountain' omslagdoek

Ik heb me op ravelry bij een 'knit along' groep aangesloten. Het is mijn eerste 'knit along'. We maken de omslagdoek 'Cold mountain', ontworpen door Kieran Foley. Het patroon is te vinden op Knitty.com. De omslagdoek ziet er vintage uit en is gebreid met heel dun garen dat geschikt is voor kant. Dat garen had ik nou net niet in mijn eigen garenvoorraad en ook niet in mijn shop. Weer nieuw garen kopen ging me wat te ver. Bovendien wilde ik snel beginnen. Ik vond in mijn voorraad nog dun sokkengaren dat ik niet prettig vind om sokken te breien. Het zijn allerlei tinten grijs. Ik ben erg tevreden met het effect. Het patroon is vrij makkelijk te volgen maar je moet wel blijven opletten natuurlijk. Heb ik niet steeds gedaan want heb al wat fouten gemaakt. Gelukkig kon ik de meeste foutjes herstellen zonder uit te hoeven halen maar niet alles. Van het uithalen van kant word ik enigszins chagrijnig.

Het is erg leuk om een 'knit along' te doen zeker omdat dit patroon voor mij best een groot project is en dat ik nog niet veel ervaring heb met kantwerk. Zo'n groep werkt motiverend. Het is fijn te weten dat anderen ook aan het worstelen zijn met steken en blij worden van het uiteindelijke resultaat. Er worden foto's van de verschillende omslagdoeken in verschillende stadia geplaatst zo kun je het effect van de verschillende garens zien.
